NESWORLD CHRISTMAS CALENDAR - DECEMBER 3
December 3rd, 2008 - 10:55 am - Posted by Martin

Hello there! Here's the third christmas update for the website. This time I have returned to the roots of the website, bringing you a small info page about one of the thousands of Famicom clones out there.

This one is made by a semi known company called Asahi, check it out here.

NESWORLD CHRISTMAS CALENDAR - DECEMBER 2
December 2nd, 2008 - 12:28 pm - Posted by Martin

Here I am with the second installment of the christmas calendar of NESWORLD submissions and this time I've decided to do a small writeup about an old N64 game copier called E64 and V64jr

You can check it out here

NESWORLD CHRISTMAS CALENDAR - DECEMBER 1
December 1st, 2008 - 9:54 am - Posted by Martin

It's time to present you with NESWORLD's first December treat, a small article about the Wideboy devices for the Nintendo64.

Click here to go the the article.

The idea with the calendar is to add one article, review or other every day throughout December. It's quite a task as I haven't made up any of the additions in advance as I probably should have, but I still aim to have a daily update.

Thanks for reading and please do comment if you have any ideas or corrections :-)

Oh yeah the video on the page is hopefully available soon, youtube seems a little slow tonight..

NES POWERPAK MAPPER UPDATE
November 18th, 2008 - 10:57 am - Posted by Martin

I'm not sure how I missed this bit of info, but the NES PowerPak Mapper package has been updated to version 1.20, adding something as cool as Famicom Disk System support as well as the ability to play .NSF files.

Also the firmware has been upgraded to version 1.11, but only minor cosmetic changes has been made.

Download the firmware pack here.
Download the mapper pack here.

The copyrighted Famicom Disk System BIOS is of course not supplied by RetroZone, but you should be able to find it elsewhere on the net. Once the BIOS file has been obtained a patch has be to applied to be able to use it with the PowerPak. A download is available here.

An updated version of the PowerPak has also been made available and it can be viewed/downloaded here. (PDF file)

NESWORLD ON THE MOVE... COMPLETED
October 16th, 2008 - 10:19 am - Posted by Martin

I'm now located at what I hope will be my home for the rest of my life, horrah. This means much more space and a brand new game room, but it also means that all my stuff is stored in boxes... lots of them.

So during the next few days or weeks I'll hopefully have everything ready to begin a new leg for the website which isn't NES related actually but N64 stuff - my favourite video game system next to the NES... a close second :-)

PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN NES GAME DISCOVERED
September 6th, 2008 - 1:47 pm - Posted by Martin

A Digital Press user who goes by the name ""mrmark0673" has discovered an unknown NES game developed by the people at Elite Systems, who seems to have had a lot of NES projects going but only managed to publish very few of them.

This game is a NES version of a C64/Spectrum game called Hoppin' Mad. Unfortunately not much is known about the game right now other than it supposedly contains around 3 levels more or less complete.

More info can be found here
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=121637

Congrats to the owner of the cartridge... yeah I'm extremely jealous :-)

NO THE SITE HAS NOT BEEN ABANDONNED AGAIN
August 23rd, 2008 - 12:20 pm - Posted by Martin

I've been busy working on a major improvement, I hope, to the site and while it's not quite ready to go online I just wanted to let you all know that I havn't dissapeared. Until I'm ready with the new section why not check out these cool Bionic Commando Rearmed behind the scenes videos, you know the remake of our great NES classic.

Click here for Episode 1 (and 2?)
Click here for the official Bionic Commando trailer.

Greetings to Eurogamer for the great work.

NEOMYTH FAMICOM/NES CARTRIDGE MIGHT BE DELAYED
August 17th, 2008 - 2:31 pm - Posted by Martin

Talking to the team responsible for releasing the NeoMyth cartridge for the Famicom and NES I was told that the device isn't in production yet as they're still working on some technical issues with the cartridge.

This means that the cartridge most likely will slip it's planned August release, but further info will follow. Also, there hasn't been any words about the release of the Neomyth SNES and N64 carts which also have a planned release just around the corner.

CAMERICA VS. CODEMASTERS... GAME DIFFERENCES
August 11th, 2008 - 8:28 am - Posted by Martin

The past few days I've been working on an article displaying some of the differences between Camerica and Codemasters' releases of the same games. It took quite some time and I hope the result turned out okay, I did my best anyway :-)

Click here to read the article - I've tried to correct most of the typos and such but please don't kill me if you find a typo or something that doesn't quite make sense. Feel free to let know if something sounds a bit off though.

GAME SPOTLIGHT: DIZZY THE ADVENTURER
August 8th, 2008 - 6:11 pm - Posted by Martin

Yes it's time for another game spotlight, this time it's sort of a rarity as the game wasn't widely available and required the Aladdin Deck Enhancer to actually work.

Anyway click here to read my Dizzy the Adventurer spotlight which is as short as the game is long... which is short. erhm yeah :-)

GAMEGENIE ARTICLE REWRITTEN
August 8th, 2008 - 10:01 am - Posted by Martin

Yeap! there's a new article ready, this time I've been digging through old GameGenie material and done complete rewrite of the old Game Genie article from the old site, and I'm actually quite proud of the outcome (heh).

Check out the article here..

MORE STUFF BACK ONLINE
August 6th, 2008 - 2:21 am - Posted by Martin

Okay it's time to add more of the old stuff and the Aladdin Deck Enhancer page is now back in its former shape, I don't think it needs a rewrite. Click here to check it out.

The page about the NES-8 converter has been totally rewritten though as well as it now contains new scans and photos to make it a little more interesting to check out. Click here for a direct link.

I'm curently working on a major update for the pirate section with brand new pictures of most of the clones, at least the ones that I own. Many of the clone pages are so old and outdated that they won't return in their current form.

Well... stay tuned for more NES goodies :-)

GAME ACTION REPLAY ARTICLE ADDED...
August 3rd, 2008 - 2:19 pm - Posted by Martin

Another day, another article.... but this is actually more an exception than a rule. Erh so anyway after my Action Replay article I decided to continue a little down the same track and stumbled upon a Game Action Replay sitting in my closet and it hadn't seen daylight for years.

Read the result here of the encounter with the locked up Game Action Replay.

PRO ACTION REPLAY ARTICLE ADDED
August 2nd, 2008 - 7:59 am - Posted by Martin

Well this article was actually supposed to have launched back when NESWORLD relaunched but I somehow managed to delete the article and had to start over. Click here to check it out.

GAME SPOTLIGHT: DUCK TALES
July 19th, 2008 - 2:38 pm - Posted by Martin

I'm very proud to present the first game spotlight not written by yours truly. Forum member "Dutch NES Gamer" has spent some time writing about his memories of Capcom's great NES classic, Duck Tales. Check it out here.

FAMICOM MULTICART PAGE UPDATED
July 6th, 2008 - 3:09 pm - Posted by Martin

Well it may seem a little quiet around here but I'm actually hard at work behind the scene. Lately I've redone the Famicom multicart page which actually wasn't that old (January 2008) but it would've been nearly impossible to load using the old layout.

That and 35 new cartridges added, as well as more to come - I've got another 30-40 cartridges sitting on my desk waiting to be added to the database.

Click here to go directly to the Famicom Multicart page.

Oh yeah I almost forgot to place a request for pictures of Famicom multicarts not already listed as well as NES ones for a future project. Scans are preferred but photos will do also :-)

NWC REPRO - NOW WITH DIPSWITCH
June 28th, 2008 - 6:14 am - Posted by Martin

Brian Parker of RetroZone has released a revised version of his NWC reproduction cartridge so that it now features a dipswicth like the original game. This means that the time now can be changed just like the original.

The game is flying off the shelf as faster than you can say NWC, I managed to buy one from the first batch and the second batch is nearly gone too, 4 left at the time of writing. However if you want to own an NWC cartridge but, like me, never will be able to afford an original one then this definately is your best option...

And no this isn't a paid advertisement but I'd like to see some support for the great work Brian does for us NES fans and I would hate to see him stop because of too little interest. Recently he has also released Sara Parker's Pool Challenge (Aka. Robert Byrne's Pool Challenge/CueStick) and a few homebrewn games including his own creation - Glider.

So why not visit RetroZone at www.retrousb.com

Please note that Airball is not completely sold out, there's roughly 70 boxes left to be assembled, but the clear cartridge cases used for the game is currently out of stock, more is on the way though.

NES CLONE ADDED - MEGA POWER II
June 23rd, 2008 - 3:44 pm - Posted by Martin
Time for another NES clone added to the pirate section. A lot of the old reviews are missing because they need to be completely redone. But here is a brand new clone that hasn't been on the website earlier... so enjoy and maybe even click here.
HOMEBREW SECTION
June 22nd, 2008 - 8:52 am - Posted by Martin
For some strange reason the "homebrew" page took forever to load even though it worked great when testing on my internal webserver. But I've changed the XSL and PHP settings a little so that the page now loads a little faster... still not good enough though :-/
GAME SPOTLIGHT: GLIDER BY RETROZONE
June 22nd, 2008 - 6:22 am - Posted by Martin
Well I decided to do a quick Glider spotlight and you can check it out here. Even though I have a problem with the graphics scheme chosen for this game I still recommend picking up a copy - it's quite well made.
NEW HOMEBREW SECTION ONLINE
June 21st, 2008 - 3:13 pm - Posted by Martin

Well this section wasn't supposed to go live until I had every NES rom floating around listed. But while there hasn't been many options to run NES code on a real NES prior to the release of the NES PowerPak, people have still been busy producing small bits and pieces of NES code.

The new page right now lists all the useful NES programs, games and demos, heck I've even tested every single of them using a PowerPak to see if the code actually works on a real NES.

Anyway click here to check out the new homebrew section. More stuff will be added later.

NO MORE EBAY - TIME TO CHASE THE CHUCKWAGON
June 13th, 2008 - 10:39 am - Posted by Martin

Jump the wagon, a new online auction site has opened recently and it's devoted 100% to video games. Why choose this one over ebay though you might ask? well there's no insertion fee for sellers! if that's not reason enough to try your luck on chasethechuckwagon.com then I don't know what is.

But either way, check out chasethechuckwagon.com as it has some pretty sweet NES stuff listed right now at very reasonable prices.

GAME SPOTLIGHT: SOLAR JETMAN
June 12th, 2008 - 10:01 am - Posted by Martin

Finally I have another game spotlight ready, I promise it won't be months before the next one is ready. Anyway this time I've picked a game that you either love or really hate. Solar Jetman was at first a game I really hated but over time it has become one of my favourites mainly because of the difficulty level - this one is a true challenge!

So check out the spotlight and head off to your local secondhand shop or fleamarket to find a copy of the game and check it out :-)

Click here to read the spotlight.

NEOMYTH FC/NES SEVERAL STEPS CLOSER TO A RELEASE
June 7th, 2008 - 5:20 am - Posted by Martin

Dr. Neo of the NeoFlash team has released a photo of their NeoMyth FC test setup as well as a picture of what the NeoMyth NES is supposed to look like.

So the NeoMyth will be released in both a Famicom (60pin) and NES (72pin) version and the realtime save feature is still on the agenda, something that surely will be a popular feature as well as the NES version of course will be working on both European and US NES consoles.

On a side note Dr. Neo also announced that the N64 NeoMyth project (finally) has reached a near complete state, something I personally have been waiting for for years. But as if that wasn't enough, also the NeoMyth SNES is almost ready for release.

Release dates are still somewhat unclear but the NeoMyth FC/NES should be available around August 2008. For more information please visit www.neoflash.com.
