About Me

Me at my Florida Store

My name is Bill Harveson. I currently have a clock and watch repair business in Crystal River, Florida. I also sell antique and vintage clocks and watches there and at my Ebay Store .

I became interested in clock collecting about 15 years ago when I inherited a couple of old clocks from a family member. I took them home and wound them both up but they refused to run. I was living in a small town in Arizona at the time that was the home of a small antique clock shop. Eventually, I stopped in with my two clocks to get them repaired.

This was my first experience in this kind of small sales and repair clock shop. I now know there aren’t many of these left in this era of large antique malls and cheap throw-away clocks. After a few trips into that shop, I became hooked on clock collecting.

During the next few years, I made frequent trips to the shop and eventually became friends with Charles, the owner. Charles is a certified Master Clockmaker who has owned his one man shop business for almost twenty years. He took note of my interest in clock repair and asked if I would be interested in learning the trade from him. My job at that time gave me a fair amount of free time, so I agreed.

For the next several years, with great on the job training, I learned a lot about clock and watch repair from Charles. I also learned about the history of clocks and watches from the many books available to me at the shop.

Then, in 2006, I moved to Florida and started my own clock and watch sales and repair business (How that will turn out is still unknown). I continued researching clock history which was helped tremendously by joining the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) . They are a great source of information for anyone interested in horology.

How and Why I Built This Site

I know most of you visit this website because of your interest in clocks, but I have been getting a lot of questions about my website and how I can provide all the information I do free of charge.

Most of my time is spent buying, selling and repairing all types of clocks and watches. But my true passion in life is collecting clocks. I wanted a website to share this passion with others. The only problem was my total lack of knowledge on how to go about it.

One night, as I was searching online for information about building a website, I stumbled onto SBI, or Site-Build-It. At the time I didn't know what a stroke of luck this was.

It takes the mystery out of building that first website by providing a guide that lays out exactly what you need to do step by step. Just a few things provided are; an Action Guide that lays out the whole process for you ahead of time, a Forum where help is only minutes away, a building system where you can build great looking web pages without knowing HTML, automatic submission to the search engines, full traffic stats, and much more. It even shows you how to make a little cash with your site.

So even though I spend a lot of time providing free information to anyone with an interest in clocks, I actually make a nice profit by displaying ads on my site, and also by pointing interested people to my eBay store where I sell some of my clocks and watches. It's a win-win for you and me.

You probably used a search engine to find Discover Clocks. Without Site-Build-It showing me how to build a page that ranks high with the search engines, and submitting that page automatically, you would not have found it.

As for the ads on my site, Google has a program called AdSense, and it allows you to help them advertise by placing text ads on your pages. It's all hands off once you set it up, all you have to do is wait for your checks.

I've heard some people say that SBI is mostly for beginners that don't know how to write a page in HTML. This is not true at all. You can design and write your pages any way you want and still get all the rest of the support and tools offered. Since I don't know HTML, I use their "block building program" to build my pages. But when I feel I have learned enough to design my own site, I can convert to "uploading my own HTML" at that time effortlessly.

If you ever have the desire to try a website of your own, you owe it to yourself to at least check SBI out before deciding to "go it alone".
