Christmas time at Woodmere

Christmas time at Woodmere is a busy time. Here you see Debbie, our expert customer service elf, working hard to get customers their orders in time for the holiday. Working her usual magic, Debbie does a great job at oftentimes finding ways to do the "impossible". Time is getting shorter, but if there something you would like or a particular miracle you have in mind - give Debbie a call and see if she can make it happen.

Debbie's number is 1-800-345-0332.

American Fitzhugh....

Fitzhugh is a type of dinnerware design popularized in the late 1700's thru the early 1800's. The origin of the name has been debated, but the most popular idea is that the name resulted from the Far East trader who had the product made in China for western customers. However the name came about....we think this type of design is beautiful. Fitzhugh came in different colors such as blue, green and our most popular color - orange.

More on how we make our own color....

Several postings ago, we showed you "color" as it comes to us - very organic, powdery, and dirt-like straight out of the ground. Well, after mixing just the right combinations of that powder to achieve the correct color hue and adding liquid, we then put this "raw color" through several millings to insure the correct viscosity in the color and to rid it of any dry particles of color that somehow have remained. Our color experts have the many years of experience necessary to know just how the color should look to print properly when we go to printing our decals.

Coming up - more on exactly how we print our designs in house to insure proper color and design!

Another gift idea.....

Have a cigar smoker that you need to buy a gift for?
Why not consider the Mark Twain quote in Woodmere's American Maxims series? It's a great gift that can be used as a change tray or simply displaying on a desk or credenza.

More on what we do....

We sometimes are asked about how hot our kilns need to fire to fuse the beautiful decorations that we create to the body of the plate or gift piece. The answer really depends upon the design and the piece as each item fires differently, along with each having unique length of firing times.
However, our kilns are equipped to fire above 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. This allows the decoration to be totally fused into the glaze of the pieces. Most designs, particularly the gold and platinum designs, fire at significantly lower temperatures, but often our hotel and restuarnat customers want their designs fired at the higher temperature levels. Higher fire temperatures require different color pigments and decorations. Woodmere produces designs and decorations for all appropriate firing temperatures.
Here, you see a kiln load of cereal bowls preparing to be fired in one of our kilns. The bowls themselves are place on kiln refractory which allows for maximization of the kiln load and will withstand the high temperature of the firing.
