Shortpacked!: Things start to fall into place...

The Animated Skywarp replacement is now almost a week late, but my new Robot Heroes arrived exactly as promised! Apparently UPS > FedEx.

I cannot tell you the last time we had new stuff from Beast Machines, the black sheep of the Transformers universe. (Well, one of the black sheep. I could give you a short list.) What was the last toy that had either the Beast Machines-era Maximal logo or the Vehicon logo on it? Probably the Japanese import of Beast Machines they did several years back, I guess. I'm sure I'm missing something. Regardless, here they are again! Tankor's Vehicon symbol is proudly on his chest, while Cheetor's is oddly on his right knee. (Transmetal Megatron had the same thing going. Sometimes that's the only flat, undetailed space big enough.)

Wasn't really expecting to enjoy these two this much. Not because I dislike Beast Machines all that much, but just because, well, they're just two guys from a single series, all alone. They have no buddies! (Not yet, anyway. There's still a Primal/Jetstorm set according to Walmart listings.) They don't help complete a set, they just create a new set to be completed. Which, for an OCD-crazed man such as myself, can sometimes be lightly infuriating, if only on a subconscious level.

But I do. I do enjoy these two this much. I've played with them way more than the other four I got today. Though, they both have similar articulation problems. Cheetor's sword is so big, it kinda limits the movement of his arm. The sword's bendy enough to push it past the rest of him, but it does limit the arm poses that look natural to a narrower arc than usual. Tankor's left arm is bulky enough that it has clearance problems with his hip. Again, it can be forced.

Both sculpts are based entirely on their television show designs, rather than their wildly different toys, though Tankor's color scheme is taken from the ol' tiny Tank Drone toy. Sometimes you gotta wonder whether these were conscious design choices or just based on whatever they had around at the time.

I haven't decided if Tankor is Vehicon-shelled dumb Tankor or evil-emerged-Rhinox Tankor, but I've been leaning towards the latter. He feels more calculating than berzerker to me.

There are plenty of people who hate Animated. They are dumb and we should hate them, but they exist.

There's probably a few who aren't too fond of G1, either. Back when BW was new, it had a young fanbase who got all mad when the second season started linking everything to all this boring stuff from before they were born. Oh, I wish those ezboards were still around...

As I recall, Titanium Cheetor even had a sculpted BM Maximal sigil for his display stand's nameplate. I believe he and The Fallen were the only Titaniums to get non-Autobot/Decepticon nameplates.

Has it really come to the point where even mentioning the economic realities people are facing is a politically-charged commentary? That's kind of sad.

Yes. Friday's strip featured the words "economic reality." It said in bold text across the face of the strip that "this is happening right now, for real!"

Really, this is fucking making me sick. I get shit for mentioning that some banks are failing. I get shit for mentioning that it would be hard to find another job because of rising unemployment. Because, apparently, the idea that EVERYTHING IS TOTALLY FINE is some crazy dogmatic thing that some people cling to like the craziest of religions.

So, ha, early forecasts suggested Black Friday would be smaller than in years past, so wouldn't it be funny if no one showed up to Shortpacked! that day? No, it's apparently not funny. Not funny at all. YOUR ECONOMIC DOGMA IS SERIOUS BUSINESS. Paying attention to the world around me is SACRILEGE. I have INSULTED YOU, apparently, by even remotely suggesting anything counter to "EVERYTHING IS TOTALLY FINE."

And, what, it's not like I'm some mudraker, out to set the world right by putting out terrible penetrating truths. I did a joke in an Internet comic about nobody showing up to one store for Black Friday because the economy is bad. ...oh, am I on notice because I put the words "is bad" after "economy"? Is that, itself, going to get me on the EVIL SOCIAL COMMENTARY list?

So, yes. Fine. I give up. I am TOTALLY saying that FOR REAL people are not showing up at all to retail stores. You TOTALLY CAUGHT ME.

Asshole.

I wasn't insulting you or condemning you for it. I just said "you're not getting all sociopolitical on us, are you?"

You could've said "yes" and I would've been cool with that.

Frankly I think it's great when people who have the ability to spread some kind of message in mass media take the opportunity to do more than make jokes about how different men and women are or how silly kids are from a dad's perspective

HA freaking ha Bill Engval. I get it. I got it when Tim Allen did it ten years ago.

Eh, reality is sucky boring and awful, you write a comic that people use to escape from reality, you injected reality into said comic at a moment when in addition to being sucky boring and awful, reality is ALSO a horrifying mass of pulsating unknowable dread that most people are terrified to even think about looking at lest the gasping beast take notice their presence and reach out to ensnare them in one of its innumerable multitude of slime-coated appendages.

I'm just saying, I can see where people might get tweaky over it.

"Wherever you can look - wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, Mike'll be there holding that turkey leg a little bit higher.

Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, Mike'll be there. Laughing.

Mike'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. [Oddly enough, this one didn't need editing.]

Mike'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready but they're trapped in a well, and when the people are eatin' the pesticide-tainted stuff they raise and livin' in the asbestos-lined houses they build - Mike'll be there, too."

Hope you've at least made a phone call on that Animated Skywarp. Then again, I could see Hasbro doing the cheap sort of shipping, where you package only gets sent your way if the Post Office happens to be headed your way. Otherwise, it sits in said Post Office until the end of all things.
