This story was originally broken by Gellman of Sports Cards Uncensored. Below are some new images of 2008 Donruss Threads, which is almost a full return to Donruss’ baseball roots. The cards look amazing and already I have a feeling the return of Diamond Kings will be my favorite inserts of the year.
Unfortunately, Donruss did not learn their lesson with too many parallels because this release makes Masterpieces and Co-Signers look like ‘97 Bowman Chrome (they had 4 parallels). Anyway, here is the product information.
Donruss Threads Baseball:
Release date: October 22nd
$6.00 per pack, 5 cards, 24 per box, 10 boxes per case
4 “hits” per box (at least two autographs)
Each card will have 4 different parallels (Green, Silver, Gold, Platinum) with each parallel being #’d to 250, 100, 50, 25. There appears to be no “one of one” cards anywhere, though.

Ahh, can you smell that friends? That is the long forgotten in the baseball card world smell of sweet sweet adequacy.
Well I know what I’m buying at some point.
I do wonder if they have any historical players in there that are “Topps exclusives” and might there be another lawsuit filed?
Does anyone else hate that damn Donruss logo?
It’s an atrocious logo!
You guys have to admit these cards look 1,000,000 times better than Sports Kings!!!
Dave at Fielder’s Choice also covered this set way back on August 10: http://fielderschoice.wordpress.com/2008/08/10/donruss-to-release-another-baseball-set/
It’s still not a licensed set so it really won’t be that much different than Extra Edition last year as far as how it’s perceived. It looks a little nicer than EE with the inclusion of Diamond Kings, Shoeless Joe and additional legends. However it’s still a novelty baseball release of sorts.
Damn no license cards!
Worst thing the MLBPA ever did was pull Donruss’ license, they made/make a quality product with ACTUAL value in the box. Classics was my favorite set good players, and a great break. EEE was 4 hits per box, yet some how I averaged 7 with multiple boxes yielding 4 plus autographs. What could be wrong with that?…
That’s a good looking Satchel Paige material card though! The DKs look nice too.
I think its a good idea not to have 1 of 1’s though, can we all agree
I’m curious to know what the checklist is going to look like. A handful of legendary greats and a bunch of prospects. Seems like an identity crisis, but I guess they have to make due with what they have.
