A Litte Bit More About Our Collectors’ Quest Family

Collin David [collin@collectorsquest.com] lives in the middle of nowhere, but like the mighty squid, reaches his creative tentacles out in countless directions, maintaining a tenuous contact, at best, with the outside world. The results of this peculiar lifestyle can be found on his website, resonantfish.com. He’s been writing about toys for many years, on AllNerdReview.com, but lately, he's dedicated his life to drawing and writing comics.
He started collecting Star Trek action figures in the 1990s, and from there, he's been unable to stop. Woe befalls anything with a superhero on it in a 400 mile radius. He also collects insects, weird metal trinkets, coffee mugs with octopi on them, old vinyl records, gaming miniatures, comics, action figures of all shapes and sizes, art and instruments. It's really quite a mess. Collin can be found as resonantfish in the Collectors' Quest community

Deanna Dahlsad [deanna@collectorsquest.com] was raised in a family of antique collectors and dealers. Her childhood was filled with the obligation to wake early on weekends and dig through the tossed-away bits of other peoples’ lives. Happily, she was able to use these skills in the service of her own collecting interests: vintage clothing, pin-up art, Gene Dolls, nudie magazines, pulp novels, cosmetic jars & compacts -- anything that documents the history of women -- as well as vintage textiles & random collections as whims allow… She also has a weakness for printed matter, and so ephemera and books are hoarded in quantities too large to be called "collections". In the guise of antique dealer and writer, she has found a way to justify both her obsessions with objects and her unnatural appreciation for discussing them. Any rumors that she found her husband, Derek, at a thrift shoppe are unfounded. Deanna can be found as poptart in the Collectors' Quest community

Derek Dahlsad [derek@collectorsquest.com] grew up in a house full of stuff. Not one of those houses you see on TV with newspapers piled to the roof and dirty dishes stacked all over the bathroom -- no, he learned responsibility in packratting things away. If there’s space inside it, put something in it. Basements are to be packed full, because you never know when you’ll need it again. His pack-rat abilities even exceed his parents -- Derek has been forced to start selling his things if he ever wants to buy more. As a collector, Derek’s tastes lead towards things touched by a real human: recordings of children singing with the radio, notes scrawled on the backs of school photos, every bit of paper related to some family's Disney vacation. He also has a collection of books, a bunch of record albums, an affinity for old computers, and a wife, Deanna, with dangerously similar interests. Derek’s been bringing strangeness to the internet since the 1990s, starting with his world-famous WalMart receipts, adding brevity in identity at I Am… , archiving ghostly sounds at Voices From The Thriftshop, reproducing the Books of Dog for all to see, and blogs less often than he'd like.

Val Ubell [noegrets@asapnet.net] The thrill of the hunt has been part of Val's life for as long as she can remember. Finding an old print at a yard sale that fits perfectly into a gap on the wall was gratifying. Spending a dollar on a trinket and selling it for fifteen was super. But keeping a full time job as HR manager in an industrial company was crucial while her daughters were at home. They'd tag along to sales on weekends, sometimes begrudgingly, other times glad because they found a 'Mint' Andy Gibb record or Barbie Doll. Once the girls were on their own, there was more time for hunting and selling. Flea markets, several antique mall booths and then Ebay (noegretsantiques), and now our own web store (www.noegretsantiques.com). And thank goodness, her husband 'The Dean' loves it too. Since 2000, she has been selling successfully on Ebay, and her customer feedbacks will attest to that. Val hope this blog brings some fun and perhaps knowledge to fellow hunters, collectors and antique lovers.

Dean Ferber [noegretsantiques@sbcglobal.net] "The Dean" started collecting while following his wife around to flea markets and garage sales. His interest in photography started at an early age and collecting vintage cameras just seemed to be a natural. At one time the collection reached well over two hundred pieces. After that his attention turned to collecting precision tools, micrometers, dial indicators and other precision hand tools from companies with prewar histories. They included Lufkin, Starrett, B&S, Federal Products, S-T Industries. And of course, machinists. tool chests to hold the collection. Dean is always on the lookout for items to decorate the house in interesting and eclectic ways. He also helps his wifey find items for her antique and collectible customers on ebay (noegretsantiques), on the web at www.noegretsantiques.com, and for her booth in an antique mall. With a background in industrial distribution, he leans toward manufacturing advertising items.

Lorraine Newberry [lorraine@collectorsquest.com] is a freelance writer who loves collecting vintage table linens, sterling silver tableware and vintage jewelry. She spent two years dealing antiques and collectibles in a popular antiques mall, where she gained experience with a wide variety of collectibles, from vintage cookie jars to antique glove holders. Lorraine holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan (go blue!). She and her family live in west Michigan, where they spend their summers on the beach and winters digging themselves out of the snow.
