Collection Profile:
  • I started collecting because:
  • I'm in love with lost sounds and unusual media formats, plus my affection for an era long before I was even born. Also, I plan on using these sounds in various creative projects. I happened upon one by accident one day and the whole world of early amateur recording opened up to me.
  • I'll be done collecting when:
  • ... there are no more voice-o-graphs left.
  • Favorite Items in my collection:
  • All of them are pretty amazing, but I especially enjoy the items where people are singing.
  • Wishlist:
  • anything I can find.
  • Collector Tip:
  • The sounds on these can be kinda rough, so a digital audio cleanup program wouldn't hurt, if you're interested in preserving them. Many have begun to flake and crack due to their flimsy nature.

That's cool, i have several Wilcox-Gay Recordio Disc sets. It's fun to here people from 50+ years ago not being sure what to say when the recorder starts!

As far as these voice-o-graphs and recordios go, I've always found them very cheaply, never paying more than a few dollars. I'm busily creating an archive of the sound on them before they decay due to age. Search the blog for 'voice-o-graph' and you'll find a lot of goodies. See commented item

A voice-o-graph by the Beatles? That would be AMAZING, and very likely one-of-a-kind. What's on it?
