Incredible invitation letter for the re-raising of the U.S. flag at Fort Sumter in Charleston, S.C. following the Union victory in the Civil War. This event was to take place on April 14, 1865, as is noted in the letter, which turned out to be the same day Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Washington, D.C. Union Gen. Sherman attended this event, and Gen. Anderson, who lowered the flag at the fort at the start of the war, re-raised the flag at this event. Henry Ward Beecher officiated at the ceremony.
