Roman Empire, Caracalla. 198 - 217 AD. Billon Denarius. Mint? Rx./ Venus standing lt. Fine, corrosion spots. An interesting coin that was part of a "forger's hoard" from the Severan period. Moulds for such coins have been found on Romano-British archaeological sites and cast forgeries have been found in archaeological context. A fascinating issue awaiting further study. This coin has been authenticated by David Sear.
