It was disheartening to hear that sports fans were having a hard time when trying to have fun with the hobby they love so much.

Well, the other day I stumbled onto another example of such lameness. Back in April a post from the Dallas News reported that Eric Vaughn, a resident of Allen, Texas, had been making and selling the fantastic t-shirts pictured above, which read, “Yu is My Homeboy.” For those scratching their heads at the reference, the Texas Rangers signed international pitching superstar Yu Darvish this year, and he’s definitely become a fan-favorite. Throw in a popular catchphrase referencing a religious figure, add a little tongue in cheek iconography, and you’ve got a hit t-shirt on your hands.

Until, that is, representatives of Darvish send you a cease-and-desist letter. This all sounds pretty familiar, doesn’t it?

According to the post, the Wasserman Media Group sent one such letter to Vaughan and Big Cartel, the company that handled order processing for the shirts. Sales were suspended while the issue was being worked out.

But luckily for fans of weird memorabilia everywhere, Vaughan hired an intellectual property attorney to represent him in the situation. At the time the piece was written, Vaughan’s lawyer, Joe Bahgat, said that it was likely that the shirts would go on-sale again soon. And they have! Checking YuisMyHomeboy.com reveals that everything seems to have been worked out—and that Darvish’s beatific face can once again be proudly displayed on your chest.

Teams and players: we like you, okay? Stop trying to make that harder. Sincerely, me.
