Top Ten Highest Selling Cy Young Baseball Cards of the Last Five Years

Yesterday, my favorite Major League Baseball Player, knuckleballer R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets, was awarded the Cy Young Award for pitching excellence in the National League. The award’s something that Mets fans and baseball fans have been hoping he would win all season long, as he’s had the best year he’s ever had, and certainly one of the best ever had by a knuckleballer (especially one who’s 38 years old).

The award got me thinking about what might be some of the highest-fetching baseball cards featuring Cy Young Award winners of the last few years. So here, now, is a list of some of the most sought after cards emblazoned with some of the most excellent pitchers of the last five (and for the National League, six) years.

Let me also point this out–these are the highest selling Cy Young baseball cards online as of November 14. As you’ll see below, some players’ cards are sure to go up in value as their careers change over time, so keep your eyes peeled.

10) Zack Greinke – 2002 Bowman Draft Zack Greinke Gold Chrome Refractor – $90

Cy Young Baseball cards: Zack GreinkeGreinke, who won the award for the American League back in 2009, played for the Kansas City Royals. That alone should tell you all you need to know about why Greinke’s card is the lowest on the list. In truth, though, there’s a bit more to it than the simple fact that the Royals are one of the less successful teams of in the majors. The card was listed as being in “Very Good” condition, so it’s likely that the wear alone was one of the major reasons for the card’s low sale price. And while the card is rare, it’s not one of a kind, but only one of fifty. Nothing to sneeze at! But compared to some of the other cards you’ll see on this list, one out of fifty isn’t particularly exciting.
