New York Comic Con 2012 has come and gone, and despite the tremendously tight and sweaty crowds, Comic Con is always a neat experience. If you’re a geek, you can’t help but feel a sense of camaraderie overtake you as you wander down aisle after aisle of neat collectible stuff and people in costumes both familiar and obscure (and occasionally revealing, but I’m not complaining, girl in the Vega from Street Fighter costume).
If you can stomach the crowds, and can develop a strategic way to slither through them (hint: don’t bring a large backpack), New York Comic Con can be a haven for collectors, with discounts and rarities down every aisle. Here’s a top ten list of things you’ll now be looking for, released only at New York Comic Con 2012.
10) DC Comics: ‘Court of Owls’ Mask
If you’ve been reading DC’s New 52 comics, you know that Batman is facing a new enemy: The Court of Owls, an organized crime group who isn’t interested in billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne trying to improve Gotham City. At NYCC 2012, DC Comics gave away free masks that mimic those found in the comics, and entire crowds of people could be seen wandering the convention holding these masks in front of their faces… which was just a little creepy.
While these were free at the convention, Batman fans have been paying around $20-$30 online to get one of these for themselves. As Halloween costumes go, this is a pretty inexpensive option.
