When folks think about political debates, some might think of the famous Abraham Lincoln-Stephen Douglas debates. Or more recently, perhaps the famous 1960 Richard Nixon-John F. Kennedy debate when a dull razor might have cost Nixon the election.
But it’s still not every day that a presidential debate comes to town. Here in South Florida, we’re fortunate that a debate will be arriving in the area on Oct. 22 when Barack Obama and Mitt Romney square off at Lynn University in Boca Raton.
It’s not just any debate, however. It’s the final debate before the presidential election in November. That gives it extra weight.
Leading up to that debate, and even after, a wonderful political collectibles display can be seen in the library at the university.
More than 1,000 items from political collector John Clark of Tallahassee, Fla., will be on display through Monday, Jan. 21. The collection includes items from George Washington to the present day. Buttons, ribbons and 3-D items are all part of the display.
The exhibit is open to the public during regular library hours of Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.-midnight, Friday 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday noon-8 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m.-midnight.
If you’re in or near Palm Beach County, Florida, in the next few months, check out this great display.
