I might not be the biggest fan of Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, even if I’m a mega Batman geek—but even if I find Christian Bale’s Batman-by-way-of-bad-Tom-Waits-impression to be hilarious, I have a certain love of Gotham’s police commissioner, Jim Gordon. He’s a man torn between (depending on what you read) his dedication to the law, his dedication to the police force, and just how effective the vigilante Batman is at stopping crime where the law and police cannot.
Gary Oldman portrays Jim Gordon in his pre-commissioner days, as he struggles through being a police lieutenant in city of dark, surrealist crime. Oldman has a lot of nerd cred as well, appearing in the Harry Potter series of films as Sirius Black, as well as The Fifth Element, and providing voices for a handful of cartoon characters.
And Hot Toys, the same people who just announced the amazing 1966 Batmobile in 1/6th scale (and possibly an Adam West Batman figure, fingers crossed and waving around Batusi-style), have just revealed this figure of Oldman’s Jim Gordon, which will be exclusive to conventions throughout the next year. And I’ll be damned if this sculpted portrait of him doesn’t look exactly like a photo.
How insanely incredible is that? There’ll probably be a ‘detective trenchcoat’ version somewhere down the line which the average, non-convention goer can purchase, but this portrait is astounding. If you’ve ever wanted a little Gary Oldman to snuggle with at night, you can’t get any better than this.
