The documentary All In: The Poker Movie had, as most documentaries do, a very limited theatrical release. However, the film becomes available for download on April 24, 2012.
Directed by Douglas Tirola, All In: The Poker Movie is the story of the card game that’s become synonymous with The American Dream. Early on, the game had been associated with con-men as much as presidents, yet it had fallen in popularity and become as dull as any community center rec department pastime — up until its recent resurgence in underground clubs of New York City, which led to a worldwide pop culture boom. It’s this poker renaissance which is featured heavily in the film.
Among the 36 cast members, there are professional poker players, celebrities — and poker players who’ve become celebrities. Among the notables are Matt Damon, who played a poker player in Rounders (1998) and has regular games with George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio; “Lady Maverick” Vanessa Rousso, one of the top women in the game in terms of all-time winnings; Doris Kearns Goodwin, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and historian; and even “The Gambler” himself, Kenny Rogers.
If you’re a collector of gambling items, or just a fan of poker, you can go all in by pre-ordering a Deluxe Movie Merchandise Package. The set includes both VOD download and DVD copies of the film along with two unique collectibles: a theatrical-sized movie poster and a deck of playing cards featuring artwork from the film.
