Toy Fair 2012 : Jazwares

Jazwares is a toy and collectible company which often flies just under my nerd radar, but last year, they had picked up the Adventure Time with Finn and Jake license – which obviously planted them firmly in the middle of my acutely attuned nerd awareness. If you don’t know about Adventure Time, allow me to enlighten you with this post. In summary : it’s one of my top five favorite things. It’s up there with Batman, so you know I’m serious.

Until now, Jazwares has kept their Adventure Time offerings slim, presumably to test the market : a series of 8 miniature figures, some dolls, two 6-inch figures of Finn and Jake (a kid and a talking dog with magical powers), and a plastic sword. All of these things remain perpetually sold out when I go looking for them in stores.

This year Jazwares will be offering a truly massive assortment of Adventure Time figures in multiple scales. While pictures were forbidden for most of the showroom, we caught a glimpse of a crazy range of miniature figures, including sets of Candy People from the Land of Ooo (including Princess Bubblegum), a bunch of zombified Candy People, ghostly gladiators, and even figures of Fionna and Cake (from a strange gender-swapping episode)… and if I’m not mistaken, George Takei’s Ricardio character as well. Two-packs generally sell for around ten dollars, but packs which include at least four figures will be arriving this year as well.

We caught one photograph of the coolest action figure I’ve ever seen : Finn in Jake Suit (which actually happened in the show).

Other future 6-inch figures will include the Ice King and the Gut Grinder – a monster which looks a lot like Jake. While Adventure Time spits out new and amazing characters every episode, I sincerely hope that Jazwares embraces each and every one of these guys in the same way that Hasbro embraced Star Wars.

You know, “That guy in the background for half a second? He deserves at least two action figures!”

And for good measure, here’s a bad cellphone photo of my own personal Ice King, here on my desk at work. Are you watching Jazwares?
