tokidoki x Marvel Frenzies, Day Five : The Thing!

Marvel’s first Family, The Fantastic Four, have all been assembled for tokidoki x Marvel Frenzies, a set of awesome keychains-slash-designer toys which were recently released. With help from Tenacious Toys, we’re working through all twenty figures one at a time. Today, we explore one of my favorite Marvel characters of all time : The Thing.

tokidoki
‘s given us one of the most unique Thing figures I’ve ever seen. Rather than the usual ultra-craggy skin, each rocky crevice delivered in fine detail, we have an angry gingerbread man with a crumbling problem. He’s not the “ever-lovin’ blue-eyed Thing” of comic fame. In his place, we have a Thing with a black gaze and a button nose. It’s hard to make a man made of rock “cute” while keeping his gruff, rough and tumble persona intact, but with cuteness being the overriding principle, tokidoki nailed it. Is it The Thing? Well, it’s a KIND of Thing.

Even when divorced from the many aspects which make The Thing who he is, it’s unmistakably him, prepared to clobber anything which might threaten his best friends. Get the whole team together and you’re set.

L-to-R : Marvel Legends Showdown, Superhero Squad, Heroclix, 3Age, Frenzies, Minimates, Marvel Wind-Ups & Minimates

You can see that I collect The Thing even more than I do other Marvel characters (not pictured are a few Marvel Legends, a 1/2 scale bust, 1990s ToyBiz stuff and a few other things), so I’m psyched to have another Thing in the collection. Stay tuned tomorrow for the final member of the Fantastic Four, Mr. Fantastic himself!
