Your Portraits Are Junk : Zac Freeman

Collectors, get ready for a completely new thing to collect and repurpose, thanks to artist Zac Freeman. Your families are going to hate me for this, but the new wave in collecting is junk.

Of course, “junk” is subjective, as my own collection of Green Lantern and monster action figures is the subject of some derision from family and acquaintances, but the awesomeness of these portraits created from patterns of “junk” is undeniable. Retaining and recycling things that we throw away into things of beauty is a favorite subject of mine, and this might be the finest collection of examples out there. Finally – something to do with all of those bottlecaps and defunct keyboards – though I definitely question the permanent incapacitation of LEGO bricks and vintage Playmobil horses. Those babies are staying in my “not junk” pile.
