Hello, Mr. Dahlsad. I really enjoyed your article, and your other articles about coins.

I am a great-great-grandaughter of John Jordan Upchurch, the founder of AOUW. I have written to several organizations (and have spoken to David in the comments above), attempting to find where I can go to view the items that were presented to him on his trips around the country. I have some photos of him wearing medals, a silver-headed cane, and apron, and holding a sword, and I had heard that (again, as David said) Pioneer had a small museum that held them. I'd like to see them or see photos of them as well.

You don't mention a museum here, but I was wondering if you ever heard of one in the organization? Thank you.

David,
I am the president of the Catholic Union of Texas, The KJT. We are a member society of the NFCA. I once saw your portrayal of your Great Uncle at either an NFCA or Texas Fraternal Congress event. I remember the booklet that you had but I can't seem to place my hands on it. Can you by chance send me an electronic copy of the booklet. We have our Quadrennial Convention coming up in July of this year and I would like to give some history of fraternalism. Thanks for any assistance you may be able to give.

Thank you for your interesting article. I am the great grand nephew of John Jordan Upchurch which was the founder of the AOUW. I have worked for two fraternal benefit societies over the last 33 years. I wrote a booklet on John J. Upchurch and dress up in his likness and present his thoughts to fraternal groups. I am very interested in some of the gifts that were given him in his last days of travel. I understand that they are located at Pioneer life. I think they have recently changed their name. since you worked there and sounds as though you have a good collection of things yourself. I have an AOUW sword. I was in Nashville over the weekend at the National Fraternal Insurance Councellors meeting and protrayed J.J. Upchurch this weekend. The only other item I have is the book that he wrote. It took me some years to find it but anything is possible through the internet. How could I get some pictures of the cane and badge that was given to him. I understand that they are displayed at Pioneer life? I look forward to hearing back from you.
