I assumed that Lion-O had some youthful adventures BEFORE his planet went all explodey! And then there was NEW Thundera too...

Man, I miss that stuff. Just hook it up to my veins.

While I think that my attention span is like a finely-honed laser, I do think that the internet is a HUGE factor in at least the propagandizing and commiserating that us 80s kids indulge in. It's the 90s kids that I'm worried about. We're also still, at this exact point in tie, finding our feet as adults and trying to figure out what that means, and feeling out the divisions between maturity and maintaining some kind of fun in the interim. And that's a really twisty process.

While I'm not casting aspersions on anything particular, politically, since I try to remain vocally neutral, I think that unrest + disposable income = collecting. At least, that's what I've boiled me own down to.

Hi Collin, I really enjoyed your post too! I am not a 'trekkie' or collector of outer-space items, or action figures or such. But I totally agree with your wording on the 'violence' out there - I do remember (although much older than you, I still have a good memory), the fun things the Jetsons did and places they went and what they went in. Where is the fun? Not on the news channels and not in our government - although we do laugh AT them. (Better be careful what I say, I remember te book "1984" too.) Keep up thegood work. Val

Collin, you wrote this at the end:

"The happier I am with how my life is moving forward, the less I have the need to nest myself in regression. In the many, many times when I find myself floundering in depression, I built up a fort of NES games and couch cushions around me and shut out the scary world."

I'd say most collectors gather/horde or othewise grab more objects when we feel out of sorts one way or another. Out collections are often giant security blankies lol

And I don't think you 80's kids are dangerous at all -- you're too connected to TV and video games to leave the house and harm any one :P

However, your generation is more likely to wax and wane as you call it than some other generations. Short attention spans from TV? lol Maybe. But there are other factors, like the speeding Internet which allows you all so much more access to hunting, discovery and reclaimation.

I, again, utterly enjoyed the post :)
